What if you'd taken
the other job?

Compass simulates the lives you almost lived — year by year, in cinematic detail — built from the choice points of your real life. Five paths. One conversation. Yours, in detail.

The universal ache

Everyone has a version of themselves they didn't become — and a quiet, lifelong wonder about who that person is.

Compass renders that person. In specific, cinematic detail.

How it works

Five minutes. Five lives.

Compass interviews you about the choice points in your life — the times you almost went a different way — then renders the alternate paths with the texture of an actual life: cities, companies, books, milestones, the version of you who took that road.

Step 01

The conversation

Five minutes. The AI asks about the moments you almost said yes — or almost said no. Specifics over abstractions. Your turn-down letters, your maybes, your what-ifs.

Step 02

The simulation

Each choice point becomes a path. Compass projects forward — Year 1, Year 5, Year 10 — with the granularity of an actual life: the city, the company, the apartment, the people, the work.

Step 03

The artifact

Six cinematic panels. Five lives you didn't live. One projection of the path you're on. Each one a designed share card — beautiful, specific, yours.

Step 04

The reflection

Read them. Sit with them. Share the ones that move you. Most users do all three.

A look at one

The simulations feel specific.

Not horoscope-vague. Not motivational-poster generic. Compass writes the version of your life that could have actually happened — with the names, places, and texture of an actual person.

"By Year 6, you'd published your first paper on coral microbiome restoration — co-authored with Dr. Rohwer at Scripps. You'd be living in a small bungalow in Kaaawa on Oahu's windward side, biking 4 miles to the lab. The work pays $98K. The view pays the rest."

Questions

What people ask.

Is this real career advice?
No. Compass is a reflection tool, not a recommendation engine. The simulations are vivid because the model writes specifically — but they're hypotheticals, not predictions. Most users find the act of reading their alternate lives more useful than any single simulation.
How long does it take?
About five minutes for the conversation, plus 60–90 seconds for the simulations to render. The artifact stays in your account.
Is this private?
Your conversation is used only to generate your simulations. We never sell or train on your data. Share cards include only what you choose to share — your name is redacted unless you opt in.
What model powers Compass?
Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.5 — chosen for its specificity and emotional range in long-form prose. Generic AI writing made this product impossible until 2025.
Will reading these mess with my head?
For most people, the answer is the opposite — most readers come away clearer about why they chose what they chose. A few find a path that calls to them; that's information too. Compass isn't designed to make you regret. It's designed to make the question you've been carrying small enough to put down.
Is the demo a real person?
No. Sarah is synthesized — a fictional composite generated as a product preview. She is labeled as such on the demo page. Compass never fabricates real people.

Five lives. One conversation.

Yours, in detail.
